Tripura Kishori Suchita Abhiyan, also known as the Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme, is a revolutionary initiative taken by the tripura government to empower and educate young girls about menstrual hygiene. The scheme aims to distribute free sanitary pads to schoolgirls to promote healthy and hygienic practices during menstruation. Objectives of Tripura Kishori Suchita Abhiyan:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Tripura Kishori Suchita Abhiyan scheme, girls must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: The scheme is only for girls who are permanent residents of Tripura.
  • School Attendance: The scheme is for girls who are currently studying in school, from 6th to 12th grade.
  • School Location: Only schools located in Tripura are eligible to receive free sanitary napkins from the state government.

It is common knowledge, that poor menstrual hygiene can lead to serious reproductive tract infections and even infertility, which can have a significant impact on a girl’s life. To address these challenges, the program will provide free sanitary napkins to all school-going adolescent girls each month. With a budget of Rs 4.02 crore, the program aims to reach 1,68,252 girls in the region. The distribution of sanitary napkins will take place through schools, with each girl receiving one packet of six napkins.

Application

To ensure that every girl child in Tripura benefits from the Tripura Kishori Suchita Abhiyan program, all schools in the region will take responsibility for its implementation. Parents and guardians do not need to apply separately for this program as it will be delivered directly through the schools. Schools will have the responsibility for the distribution of free sanitary napkins to all school-going adolescent girls every month. This program is designed to promote menstrual hygiene and empower girls with the tools and resources they need to manage their periods with confidence.
