Introduction

The government of Tamil Nadu has always been proactive in ensuring the welfare of its citizens. In 2006, the Kalaignarin Varum Mun Kappom scheme was launched with the aim of providing better medical assistance to the residents of the state. Recently, in 2023, the scheme was re-launched by M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Vazhapadi, Salem. The aim of the re-launch is to enhance healthcare services and make them more accessible to a greater number of people in the state.

The objectives of the scheme are to add more specialties, set up health camps, provide better medical assistance to beneficiaries, and help people get better medical assistance when diagnosed with diseases. The scheme offers benefits such as improved healthcare services, access to government hospitals and medical colleges, and better medical assistance to the residents of Tamil Nadu.

Objectives

The scheme has been launched with the following objectives:

  1. To add more specialties to the scheme to provide better medical assistance.
  2. To set up 1250 health camps in the state for the beneficiaries to get suitable help from the scheme.
  3. To provide better medical assistance to the 12.5 lakh beneficiaries who have already benefitted from the original scheme.
  4. To help people get better medical assistance when diagnosed with diseases.
