Assam has a large population of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who face socio-economic challenges when it comes to medical treatment. To help these communities, the government has established a scheme to provide financial assistance to SC/ST patients suffering from cancer and malignant diseases. The scheme offers a one-time fixed financial aid of ₹50,000 to support these patients in accessing advanced medical care and improving their chances of recovery.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must belong to the SC/ST community in Assam.
  • The applicant should be diagnosed with cancer or another malignant disease.
  • Individuals cannot claim this financial aid more than once.

  • SC/ST patients battling cancer and malignant diseases will receive a one-time financial assistance of ₹50,000.

Required Documents

  • Caste Certificate issued by the relevant authority.
  • Medical certificate and related medical documents.
  • Passport-sized photograph of the applicant.
  • Copy of the front page of the bank passbook with bank account number and IFSC details.
  • Bills of medical expenses.
  • Income certificate to verify eligibility.

How To Apply

  1. Offline Application:
    • Applications will be invited from individuals belonging to SC/ST communities suffering from cancer or malignant diseases through advertisements published in widely circulated newspapers.
    • Applications can be submitted through Sub-divisional Welfare Offices, Integrated Tribal Development Projects (ITDPs), or directly to the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Assam or Assam Directorate of Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes.
    • Applicants need to provide all relevant documents along with their applications.
  2. Post-Application Processes:
    • A Scrutiny Committee, appointed by the Director of Welfare of SC, Assam, will review the submitted documents and prepare a report within a week.
    • The Selection Committee will then evaluate the Scrutiny Committee’s findings and finalize the list of eligible SC/ST patients.
    • The final selection will be based on adherence to the scheme’s eligibility criteria.
  3. Online Application:
    • In the future, applications may be made online via the Official Website of the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Assam, or Directorate of Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes, Assam, once the website is fully operational.
