Eligibility criteria

  • Institutional Affiliation:
    • Faculty members regularly appointed in universities, deemed-to-be-universities, and institutions of national importance.
  • Appointment Status:
    • Newly appointed Assistant Professors against permanent posts.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Possession of a Ph.D. degree.
  • Research Publications:
    • Minimum of five (5) research papers published in journals of international repute.
  • Application Timeframe:
    • Application within two years from the date of joining the post.

Selection Procedure

  • UGC will invite online applications for Research Grants for newly recruited faculty members.
  • The applications will be evaluated by minimum of three referees assigned by the UGC as per area of research proposed by the applicant.
  • The evaluation includes the merit of the proposed project, the professional standing of candidate and the institution where the research is to be carried out.
  • The final merit list will be generated based on the scores from the referees. The results will be posted on the UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in).
  • Selected candidates can download their award letter through UGC website.
  • The whole process would be akin to that employed for manuscript handling and evaluation by leading international journals and will be a paperless exercise. No interim queries will be entertained.
  • The Commission reserves the right to withdraw/cancel the award of Research Grant without assigning any reason

Under the scheme, the quantum of support provided is ₹10,00,000. This grant can be utilized for various purposes including:

  1. Purchasing Minor Equipment: Buying equipment necessary for research and development activities.
  2. Consumables: Procuring materials and supplies essential for conducting experiments and research.
  3. Contingencies: Covering unforeseen expenses that may arise during the course of the project.
  4. Fieldwork: Funding expenses related to field visits, data collection, and field experiments.
  5. Travel: Covering travel expenses for attending conferences, workshops, or meetings within the country.

However, there are certain restrictions on the usage of the grant:

  • The grant cannot be used for international travel.
  • It cannot be used for purchasing furniture items.
  • It cannot be utilized for appointing a project assistant or research fellow.

Required Documents

  • Scanned passport-size photograph and signature (format: jpg, size upto 1 MB).
  • Complete research proposal (size upto 5 MB) and an abstract (size upto 1 MB).
  • Auto-generated form signed by HoD/Registrar.

How to apply

Step 1: Read the Guidelines

  • Visit the website https://frg.ugc.ac.in/
  • Read the guidelines carefully under the relevant scheme to ensure eligibility.

Step:2 Registration

  • Click on “New User” for the scheme you wish to apply.
  • Here, you need to fill in all the details for registration and provide an email address which will be used for all future correspondence.


● Please keep ready a scanned copy of your passport size photograph and signature (size upto I MB , format: jpg), before registration.
● And Click on the ‘Submit’ button, after filling in all details.
Step:2 Login

● After registration, you will receive an email from ugchelp@mail.inflibnet.ac.in providing Scheme Login Credentials to log in to fill application form.


● You need to fill in received credentials
● You need to change password for logging in for the first time. Please remember new password,.
● After Logging in, a Pop-up message showing the eligibility criteria will be displayed on the dashboard
Step:3 Dashboard
● Verify and complete your profile details.

●Here, you need to click on the “Eligibility Criteria” button

● Read all the criteria and click on the check box next to UGC guidelines, after careful reading of guidelines.

Step:9 Professional Details
● You need to fill in professional detail
● And Click on the ‘Submit’ button


Step:10 Research Details

Step:11 Declaration
● Please read the declaration carefully.
● If you agree with the declaration, click on the check box next to “I Agree with above”
● And Click on the ‘Submit’ button


Step:12 Auto Generated Form
● After filling the application form, an auto-generated form will be displayed on your
screen. Please take the print out of the same,sign it and get it signed by the
HoD/Registrar and upload the same before the submission of the application
form.


●After uploading duly signed and stamped auto generated form, the process
of submission of application form will be complete. write in very easy and different points

Step 10: Declaration

● Please read the declaration carefully.

● If you agree with the declaration, click on the check box next to “I Agree with above”

● And Click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Offline Process

  • Visit the UGC website and register as a new user.
  • Fill in all details for registration and provide a valid email address.
  • Read the guidelines carefully and ensure eligibility.
  • Submit the application online (no hard copies accepted).
