The caste system is a hierarchical system in which castes are placed one above the other on the basis of social status and prestige. With the modernization, prejudices still remain in our country, caste, upper caste, lower caste, etc. are very well understood by the society, still, it is almost seen that if an upper caste man or woman marries a lower caste woman or person he/she is not accepted in the society and sometimes they are beaten, these days we often see this kind of incident on social media.

The Maharashtra Inter Caste Marriage Scheme aims to eradicate untouchability by promoting and encouraging inter-caste marriages between the upper-caste permanent residents of Maharashtra, Hindu Lingayat, Jain, Sikh communities and the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Nomadic Castes, Nomadic Tribes, and Special Backward Category. The scheme provides an incentive of Rs 3 lakh to the married couple, where one of the spouses belongs to SC, ST, VJNT, or SBC. The objective of this scheme is to promote social reform and upliftment of marginalized communities.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra state
  • One of the newly married couples must belong to Scheduled Caste
  • Only after an official court marriage, the couple will be eligible to apply for this scheme
  • They can avail this facility only if the girl is at least 18 years of age and the boy is at least 21 years of age at the time of marriage.

Benefit

Earlier, the Maharashtra government used to give 50,000 rupees to the couple under this scheme but later, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Foundation decided to give another 2,50,00 rupees supporting the scheme. That means the couple will get a total of three lakh rupees as a reward for the bravery

How to Apply

In this scheme it is only possible to apply through offline, the online application process is not started yet, follow the below procedure to apply offline

To apply for the Maharashtra Inter Caste Marriage Scheme, you need to visit your district’s Samaj Kalyan Samiti official and collect a form. Fill in all the required details carefully on the form. After your application is properly verified, the reward amount will be sent directly to your bank account.
