About Price Support Scheme

The Price Support Scheme (PSS) is a crucial initiative by the Government of Assam aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector across the country. The scheme targets major crops such as Bajra, Jowar, Maize, Paddy, Cotton, Tur, Moong, Urad, Groundnut, Sesamum, Wheat, Gram, Mustard, and Sugarcane. Implemented by the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, the PSS focuses on procuring oilseeds, pulses, and cotton. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) is the central nodal agency responsible for this effort, ensuring that prices remain stable and profitable for farmers.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Farmers within Assam State.
  2. Government employees are ineligible to apply.
  3. Benefit availed by selling produce at support prices in APMC centers opened by the Nodal procurement agency.

Benefits

  1. Purchase at MSP: When commodity prices dip below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), state and central procurement agencies directly purchase from farmers at MSP, under specific quality guidelines.
  2. Economic Safeguarding: Farmers are shielded against economic losses in farming due to falling prices.
  3. Enhanced Production: Price supports stimulate larger production, creating a balance between production and consumption.
